Three top tips James taught me about face charts...

BACK TO MY BLOG >

This week on MYKITCO Monday James took us back to school and showed us how to master the fundamentals of a face chart!

Makeup face charts are a staple tool for makeup artists! They provide a canvas to practise, plan, and perfect makeup looks before applying them to a real face. Whether you're preparing for a big event, experimenting with new techniques, or just indulging in your creative side, face charts offer a way to visualise and refine your ideas. On this week's MYKITCO Monday James taught us how to bring face charts to life using layering and dimension. These are the three top tips I picked up…
Powder products are key: Powder products are key to mastering a face chart. When doing a face chart it's important to remember you are working with paper and not skin! Liquid products soak into the paper whilst powder products tend to glide over the paper to create that flawless skin-like effect. Adding product in light layers helps to avoid product build up and patchiness. James recommends using a powder foundation like Bare Minerals Original Loose Powder Foundation with a powder puff!
  1. Don’t be afraid to add shadows: Adding shadow adds dimension which brings your face chart to life! James adds black eyeshadow to his face charts to create shadows, especially under points of the face which would be naturally higher such as the nose, lips and cheekbones. Adding a super dark colour to your face chart can be really daunting but shadows make the difference between a two dimensional picture and being able to visualise your client or look in real life! James likes to use black instead of a dark brown as it mimics the cool tones of a shadow.
  2.
Use dense fibre brushes:
Shorter, denser fibre brushes allow for more precision and control. When working with face charts it's essential to have brushes that apply with good product pay off! Using long fibre, fluffy brush won’t lay down enough pigment so using denser brush makes it super easy to add colour and dimension. I recommend using 1.14 PRO MY DETAILING CREASE.
I had so much fun tuning into this weeks MYKITCO Monday, I’m going to go put my new skills to use!
See you next time,
